Utilizes eye movements to help change the way traumatic memories are stored in our minds. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. It is an entire therapy model that has been proven to be highly effective for those who have experienced trauma.
DBT-PE aims to help clients stop avoidance and instead confront trauma-related thoughts and situations so that trauma can be effectively processed. To do this, the DBT PE protocol uses two types of exposure; imaginal and in vivo.
